Lee Black, was born and raised on a coffee/dairy farm on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, East Africa.
Lee acquired her love and deep appreciation for animals and nature as a result of her African up bringing and frequent safaris.
Horses have always been a part of Lee's life she acquired her first Arabian, a spunky three year old gelding, at twelve. Smokie was her friend and confidant through out her teenage years and after knowing him there could be no other breed of horse in her life.
After specializing in Biology, Zoology and Anthropology at University in England. Lee moved to California in 1978 and established Nyota Ya Nyika Arabians, with her husband David in 1984.
David Black grew up a world away in San Diego California, USA and is a 3rd generation shipwright.
He currently runs his own successful yacht consulting, remodeling and repair business.
David's introduction to arabian horses came with the purchase of two yearlings, shortly after his marriage to Lee. David is now a valuable contributor to the everyday running of the farm.
